It was a lovely sunny day. An Irish Doctor from London walking on the busy streets of London entered to a shop that he usually go to check for antiquarian African books. Specially he is interested in Ethiopian books and manuscripts. He started looking around the shop and then went down stairs to the basement. There he saw something strange, he felt something, even his heart started beating faster, he couldn't tell himself wether it was the shock or the surprise that makes him feel that way. He left the shop quietly as he was wanted to make sure what he saw is true.

The next day he went back to the shop with an Ethiopian who knows about the Ethiopian Orthodox Church manuscripts and artifacts. He proved to him that it was true, It was a Tabot (The Replica of the Arc of the Covenant. This Tabot was was brought back to the UK by a soldier after the British soldiers looted the Maqdala fortress in the North of Ethiopia as part of a campaign to free some hostages in 1868. Finally it landed to the hands of this shop owner after bought from an Auction somehwere in UK.

'I have never seen a Tabot plainly before, except covered when in some big celebrations when they brought it out for procession, even on that it is covered and carried by a priest and I am not able to stare at the tabot when it passes me instead I bow down till it passed me' said the Doctor, 'but as soon as I saw it in the shop some kind of power told me it is something pecious.'.

The Doctor immediately paid the money asked by the shop keeper (am not disclosing the amount here, but it is in Thousands of pound), collect the Tabot wrapped it up and left the shop and kept it in his house. Priests gathered in the house and did a prayer service and after a few days the Dr. carried the Tabot himself and took it to Ethiopia and hand delivered it to the Holy Synod.

Non - Ethiopians are doing a lot to keep our pricelss Historical treasures back in Ethiopia. On the other hand we Ethiopians are selling them out to other collectors for peanuts and they are selling them in Antique shops, on e-bay and other outlets for a huge anount of money.

The likes of Dr. Ian Mac Lennan and Professor Richard Pankhurst,(and also the Scttish priest who returned back a Tabot to Ethiopia) tried a lot for the return of the Magdala lootings back to Ethiopia. Atleast these people will put back our hope, but we need to do more ourselves.

Church officials in Ethiopia from top to the small deacon, are all dreaming about money these days, I don't know what kind of Satan is upon them, I think in my opinion the public have more fear of God than the so called clergies. I have witnessed this while I am going to Ethiopia. These church officials can do anything or sell any treasures if they can get something out of it.

How can we protect it? In my opinion all the church treasures in Ethiopia, should be kept in one National or Church Museum locked in glass window rather than keeping them in every church all over the country. Visiting many churches in ethiopia, I myself have seen a lot of pricelss treasures kept openly everywhere even a tourist can steal them easily. On the other hand the way these artifacts kept in most churches is not safe, can be damaged easily by factors such as rain water, humidity and so on.

A layman or a priest in a small church doesn't know how valuable these items are, that is why our treasures are easily sold out to foreigners for small amount of money.Every Ethiopian has a duly responsibility to protect our treasures from theives and hands of foreigners. We can't shrug our shoulders and forget about it as we are not happy if someone came into our house and steal our property. Even the latter is nothing is nothing compared to our national treasure.

Ethiopia stretches her hands unto God.

God bless
